The Locksmith Files – 15! Foul Weather & Broken Keys!
It’s been a busy time helping customers with broken keys. This normally happens when it is raining and the customer is in a rush to get inside where it is warm and dry. The problem is when they try and turn the key in the lock before it is fully inserted, this not only snaps the key off in the lock but twists the key making it more difficult to extract. Luckily for the customer, we have a number of tools we can use to extract the broken key.
To prevent this problem, always make sure you insert the key fully into the cylinder lock before turning. Also if the lock is becoming stiff to operate, it is always a good idea to call us before this escalates into a broken key problem.
